Visit Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad

Carlsbad’s new-wave French restaurant whose name translates to “young and beautiful,” was named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants, class of 2019, drawing national attention to the burgeoning restaurant scene in North County San Diego. Jeune et Jolie offers diners a globally-inspired French menu, exploratory cocktails, and impeccable interiors designed by Bells and Whistles. Jeune et Jolie has established itself as a vital force in the reimagining of State Street, along with its sister restaurant Campfire, a mere two blocks south, which received Bib-Gourmand status from the California Michelin Guide.

“Wow, wow, wow! It would be difficult to convey the level of competing humility and pride we are feeling right now. We are so incredibly humbled and honored to be named one of the Best New Restaurants in America by Esquire. I mean, even writing those words is a surreal experience. And yet that humility is balanced by the enormous pride and love we have for Jeune et Jolie, and all the beautiful people we are lucky enough to work with. Chef Bachelier and the entire team at Jeune really love what they do, and I really think that (as cliche as it may be to say) our guests can feel and taste that love. To be recognized for this on a national stage, and to be placed alongside so many insanely good restaurants, is just too cool.

We have been open for just under a year, and in that year we have all taken a lot of risks with this restaurant. We are trying to walk that razors edge between ‘fine dining’ and ‘neighborhood restaurant.’ We strive to create exceptional food and drink with polished service, but we are just bored if it isn’t really fun. We want our guests to love what they are eating and drinking, but more than anything, to just have a damn good time.

It hasn’t always been easy, but we have done it because we believe this is a special place, and because nothing brings us more joy than when our guests feel the same way. We can’t wait to continue to share that joy with every guest that comes through our doors. Now: champagne!”

#11: Jeune et Jolie (Carlsbad, CA) – Some of the finest Cali-French cooking in the U.S. can be found a few miles north of San Diego in a space as sexy as some next-wave bistronomy outpost in Provence. Gallic songbirds trill from an old reel-to-reel machine. Wine and bread and butter and fresh seafood arrive in gentle waves, followed by artful constructions of vegetables and fish—courtesy of chef Andrew Bachelier, whose roots are Mexican and French
