URBN Restaurants Expands

URBN RestaurantsSan Diego’s leading restaurateur, Jon Mangini of URBN Restaurants (BASIC Bar/Pizza, URBN Coal Fired Pizza, URBN Brewing Co.) expands his popular collective into North County with a fourth URBN Coal Fired Pizza location. Having rooted his success in a simple, no-nonsense business model, Mangini has earned a reputation for taking risks on unexpected locations with his New Haven-style pizzeria concepts (see: BASIC in East Village circa 2006, URBN Vista and his latest El Cajon expansion and brewery). The approach has paid off as collectively, his multi-million dollar restaurant group has steadily increased revenue to further propel his staying power within in San Diego County. Having opened doors this week to URBN Encinitas, the latest addition to Mangini’s growing stable of restaurants offers the same industrial feel and authentic New Haven-style pies at 764 S Coast Hwy 101.

“I’ve always had a soft spot for Encinitas,” says Jon Mangini, who recently moved to North County with his wife and children. “There’s a great community vibe and a lot of smaller independent businesses that cater to our similar clientele. We’re really excited to bring our vision of great food and beer to the coastal communities up north.”

Located along the historic Pacific Coast Highway, URBN Coal Fired Pizza Encinitas marks Mangini’s first foray into the North County beach community and is an exciting new addition to the area’s quickly growing dining scene. The 1,500 square foot space, underwent a design overhaul led by Mangini, and incorporates the same signature warehouse-style design aesthetic synonymous with the URBN Restaurants brand. The menu showcases URBN’s award-winning staple – traditional thin crust, coal-fired pies reminiscent of the famous pizzerias found in New Haven, Connecticut. A choice of craft beers from the collective’s El Cajon brewery operation, URBN Brewing Co., is also available alongside an extensive list of international ales. H2PR

ABOUT URBN RESTAURANTS:  With a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for expanding into untapped markets, East coast transplant Mangini first launched URBN Restaurants’ flagship eatery BASIC Bar/Pizza in San Diego’s then underdeveloped East Village in 2006. In response to the overwhelming popularity of his signature thin-crust, New Haven-style pizza, Mangini launched a spin-off, URBN Coal Fired Pizza, in Vista in 2008, followed by a second URBN location in San Diego’s progressive North Park neighborhood in 2010. In 2014 URBN expanded into San Diego’s overlooked neighboring market of El Cajon – joining forces with Operating Partner Alex Carballo and Head Brewer/Partner Callaway Ryan (both formerly of Stone Brewing Co. pedigree), Mangini went on to launch his third outpost of URBN as well as URBN Brewing Co., the collective’s new in-house brewery operation. Now in 2015, with the launch of URBN Encinitas, the collective welcomes its fifth-brick-and-mortar pizzeria concept. Both BASIC and the URBN establishments are consistently awarded for their authentic New Haven-style pies, and have been featured in high profile media outlets such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Draft Magazine, Travel Channel and MTV to name a few. Looking into the future, with Mangini’s proven method of success in taking a chance on a burgeoning market, URBN Restaurants plans to open a dozen more venues along the West Coast in the coming years ahead. Please visit www.urbnrestaurants.com for more information.
