A new brunch spot has sprung into action in the culinary corridor of Avenida Encinas, an addition that takes the morning meal to a whole new level of foodie fun. Toast Gastrobrunch specializes in clever breakfast and lunch fare coupled with uniquely honed libations, sure to start any day off with a cheer.
Hungarian-born Executive Chef/Partner Alfred “Alfie” Szeprethy runs the show at Toast, having risen from a young prep cook to his current role as Sammy’s Executive Corporate Chef. “Toast offers a wide selection of interesting flavor combinations to start everyone’s day off right,” he says.
Signature dishes include everything from Smoked Brisket Hash to Pistachio Shredded Toast, featuring phyllo with a ricotta and mozzarella filling soaked in sweet orange blossom sauce, to their signature Eggs in Purgatory; a sourdough bread bowl cradling poached eggs in a spicy shashuska sauce, mushrooms, bacon, feta, scallions and mint, along with a variety of “Toasts” and breakfast salads.
“We’re excited to become a staple destination in the Carlsbad community, and look forward to providing a go-to spot for locals to come together and enjoy our exciting new breakfast and lunch offerings,” says Szeprethy.
For those seeking a kickstart to their day, Toast showcases a menu brimming with breakfast cocktails, featuring Flaming Coffee; a rich intermingling of coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar and fire, and their decadent Boozey Start; a combination of coffee, brandy, Grand Marnier and Kahlua topped off with whipped cream and an orange peel. A selection of Bloody Marys are also available alongside Sangrias, Bubblys, Micheladas and original cocktails including their irresistible Lavender Lady; a lavender cordial made with lime juice, champagne and lavender bitters.
