The Patio Group announces the revamp of the former East Village location, Harvest By The Patio, that will be briefly close in mid-Oct. and reopen as ‘Himmelberg’s’ in January 2019. The new restaurant will resemble a rock n’ roll surf style bar bringing the carefree lifestyle of the beach to the city. Named after the late friend of The Patio Group’s CEO, Gina Champion-Cain, Himmelberg’s will remain a sustainably-sourced, fast casual food and drink location bringing the East Village community a new gathering place to call home.
“Himmelberg’s is a further expression of what began in Encinitas at The Patio on 101 and Surf Rider Pizza Co. opening in La Mesa by creating a laid back community vibe in a place to get quality eats and drinks,” said Hilary Rossi, Senior Vice President of Food and Beverage at American National Investments. “We are transforming Harvest By The Patio into an eclectic, surf-inspired food and beverage experience. Think of Himmelberg’s as the “Cheers” of the neighborhood, offering one of the best happy hours, drinks and healthy to-go food items in the East Village.”
The concept was born from The Patio on 101’s “Himmelberg’s Bar” named after the late Joey Himmelberg, who was a former Senior Project Manager at American National Investments and a great friend of The Patio Group’s CEO, Gina Champion-Cain. Joey Himmelberg passed suddenly in July of 2016 of a heart attack. He was a fun loving and charismatic San Diego surfer and “Himmelberg’s” was born to pay tribute to his spirit and bring people together over good food and drinks to create new memories in honor of Joey.
Himmelberg’s service style will remain similar with fast-casual grab and go menu items where patrons can get healthy food on the run or stay and enjoy the offerings and beverages. Himmelberg’s is committed to bringing the neighborhood flavorful and satisfying food like the Maverick Bowl filled with avocado, roasted corn, red kidney beans, scallions, tomato, chopped romaine, cilantro with toasted cumin dressing and the Olympia Bowl with chickpeas, cucumber, red onion, roasted peppers, tomato, kalamata olives, spinach, feta cheese with red wine herb dressing. Restaurant goers can also enjoy the original smooth citrus “Himmel Brew” unique to The Patio on 101 and this bar and brewed by local Mission Brewery.
“The Patio on 101’s Himmelberg’s Bar was such a special dedication and gave life to the idea that these locations are more than restaurants but a place where the community can come together and feel like part of a family,” said Gina Champion-Cain, CEO of The Patio Group. “We want to bring the city of San Diego this feeling of community through food and this new location will bring that to East Village.”
