Summer Menus Hit San Diego Restaurants

The showstopping restaurant high atop Hotel La Jolla has the ocean views, but unlike many other scenic eateries, they also have fantastic food to pair. New to dinner are a variety of fresh, flavorful dishes from Executive Chef Ingrid Funes that highlight summer. To start, try Funes’ Watermelon & Burrata salad with jicama, mint, radish, cucumber and jalapeno mint vinaigrette, or her Crab Tostada with lump crab meat, tomato, onion, cilantro, avocado puree and citrus crema. For entrees, Funes’ added a Roasted Scottish Salmon with potato manchego croquette with summer squash, poached cherry tomatoes, pickled bell peppers and basquaise sauce, as well as Chef’s Choice Fish with cous cous, cauliflower puree, fennel and asparagus salad with apple and golden raisin verju. The bustling Lemon Grove eatery has changed its menu for summer, offering over a dozen new dishes, including a selection of vegetarian dishes. Start with a variety of “jars,” like Caponata with eggplant, celery, olives, and agrodolce, or Burrata with truffle oil and crostini. Move on to Salmon Carpaccio with house smoked salmon, arugula, lemon, capers, red onion and EVOO, or share a San Danielle pizza with prosciutto, burrata, arugula, parmesan, tomato sauce and mozzarella. Chef Marco Provino added a variety of pastas and entrees worth dining for, including a Vegan Vegetable Lasagna, Lobster Gnocchi with lobster tail, baby shrimp and pink sauce, 8 oz. Pacifica Breeze Cafe

The 15-year-old Del Mar café recently underwent a refresh, unveiling a new look and fresh menus for breakfast and lunch. First up was amping up their coffee offerings, where they partnered with local roaster JOE coffee to serve coffee house classics, 12 hour cold brew and matcha. For breakfast, start with a selection of Avocado Toasts, like South of the Border or Heirloom Tomato, served on thick sliced multi-grain toast with crushed avocado, extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. Other additions include Achiote Braised Pork Shoulder Hash and Acai-Pitaya Bowl. For lunch, order one of their new wraps, like their Vegan Vegetable, or Wrap Combo – half of any wrap and choice of cup of soup or small organic green salad. Sandwiches include the Breeze Cubano and local favorite, Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The vibrant and bustling downtown Mexican kitchen never disappoints when it comes to delivering creative, fun food and drinks worth dining for. Executive Chef Brad Kraten and Sous Chef Citlalmina Rosete’s latest dinner menu celebrates the regional cuisines of Mexico – adding dishes that bring on serious flavor. Start the meal with a fresh Watermelon Salad with pepitas, cotija cheese, watercress, red onion and valentina. Move on to small dishes, like Short Rib Empanadas, Tacos de Cochinita Pibil or Smoked Jalapeno Braised Octopus Taco a la Plancha. Start the week off with All Day Happy Hour Monday, where bites start at $4 and drinks are $5. Head in to Tuesday with ½ off select bottles of wine, then Wednesday with Cheese Wheel Pasta night – both available after 5pm. Thursday is Date Night, where 2 people can enjoy 2 glasses of house wine, a shared starter, 2 entrees and a shared dessert for $49.
