September 7th is National Beer Lover’s Day, and with so many amazing craft breweries, San Diego has plenty of reason to celebrate! We’ve paired some of the best local brews with tasty bites, so you can spend your Monday drinking and dining around town.
It may be September, but that doesn’t mean that summer weather in San Diego is over! If you’re searching for a refreshing way to toast to National Beer Lover’s Day, look no further than Fish Shop in Point Loma. With patio dining available, you can kick back and relax with the Point Loma Fish Shop Blonde, a light ale that perfectly complements the build-your-own salad option. Select your fish and seasoning, which come served atop mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, pickled red onions, capers, and your choice of six different dressings.
Venture down to Chula Vista’s Third Avenue to check out local breweries and tasting rooms, including Chula Vista Brewery, Third Ave Alehouse, and Thr3e Punk Ales. All three also have online ordering, for pick up or delivery, and are surrounded by some great spots to grab grub. You’ve got options such as pizza, tacos, sushi, and more, so the possibilities for pairing beer and bites is endless along Third Ave!
Soak up the sun at Original 40 Brewing, a North Park favorite for cold beer and delicious food. With patio dining in front and lots of outdoor seating behind the brewery, there is plenty of space to sip on the beloved Chrispy Boi helles lager. During lunch, enjoy with the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich, served with labheh, tomato, romaine lettuce, cucumber, za’atar seasoning, and lemon dressing, all on artisanal bread. You won’t find a better combo!
With 11 rotating craft beers on tap, Corner Chicken is your go-to spot for a cold one in East Village. Visitors and locals alike are raving about the Corner Chicken Sando, Nashville-style hot chicken topped with kale slaw, pickles, and a signature sauce. To help keep the spice at bay, be sure to order a hoppy IPA, such as Harland Brewing Co.’s Hazy IPA or Societe Brewing Company’s The Pupil, an American IPA.
If your ideal way to celebrate National Beer Lover’s Day includes beer and tacos, then City Tacos has you covered! All six locations, from Imperial Beach to Encinitas, feature a variety of authentic tacos and lots of options for cold beer to help wash them down. City Tacos’ IB shares a space with Mike Hess Brewing, and on September 7th, the Pacific Beach location will be offering a local’s special, which consists of an Al Pastor taco and Mexican beer for only $5.
AleSmith Brewing Company’s outdoor beer garden is open for business, and they’ve partnered with Zoe’s Place Food Truck to offer some great brew and food for all those beer-fanatics out there! Snack on Crab Guacamole or fresh tacos, and enjoy the San Diego Pale Ale .394, a beer that’s full of hop and light in body. If you’re loving the hazy IPAs, be sure to try AleSmith For Hope, a collaboration with Anvil of Hope where proceeds are donated to members of the community impacted by COVID-19. AleSmith also offers beer to-go, curbside pick-up and local delivery, so visit their website for more information.
