Saffron Thai has opened a second location in La Jolla just over 33 years after chef Su-Mei Yu established the restaurant’s original outpost on India Street in San Diego’s Mission Hills neighborhood. The new Saffron. near the heart of downtown La Jolla, features over 2,000 square feet of inviting indoor and outdoor dining. Guests can enjoy all of their favorite Saffron dishes, including Su-Mei’s famous Salad Rolls, Thai Grilled Chicken, Stir Fries, Noodle Soups and flavorful Curries, plus several new selections like beach friendly Curry Wraps. The menu continues to emphasize Su-Mei’s philosophy of “food for the mind, body and soul” with a wide range of healthy choices, most of which are available gluten free and / or vegetarian.
Saffron uses the freshest ingredients, using items based on the season, making sauces and broths from scratch, and hand preparing everything daily. The result is an award-winning menu that is both affordable and nutritious. Opened in 1985 by notable chef, cookbook author and television personality Su-Mei Yu, Saffron was San Diego’s first Thai restaurant.
