Red Card Café in Bay Park has announced all new menus following last month’s hire of notable Executive Chef Jeff Larson, who hails from Napa’s renowned dining scene where he held prominent roles at a duo of Michelin recommended restaurants. Since joining Red Card Café in July 2017, Larson has overseen a creative, season-driven revamp of the gastropub’s dinner, lunch and brunch menus with dishes that are “simple and taste like what they are” per the chef, who has maintained Red Card’s concept of serving the world’s popular street foods and contemporary fare.

First and foremost, Red Card Café has split its all day menu into separate lunch and dinner menus, both comprised of nearly twenty small plates featuring seasonal and local items like Chino Farms Yellow Heirloom Gazpacho and Arugula Stone Fruit Salad alongside globally-inspired plates like Spam Musubi Arancini, Falafel and Umami Wings.More than a half-dozen larger entrees round out lunch and dinner, with plates including Mushroom Bahn Mi, Pork Belly BLT, Jidori Chicken Breast with creamed corn and chanterelle mushrooms and a Braised Short Rib over peach puree and rosemary honey.

On Saturdays and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. guests can now enjoy a refreshed brunch menu featuring items such as Pigs in PJ’s (corndog fried sausage in maple syrup), Duck Confit Hash, Fried Chicken ‘N Sweet Potato Waffles and a Monte Cristo served between French Toast with maple syrup and jam. Fourteen craft beers on tap and bottomless mimosas roundup the experience.

Prior to joining Red Card Café in July 2017, Larson spent two years as Executive Chef of Goose & Gander in St. Helena, Calif., during which time he oversaw daily operations of the iconic Michelin recommended property. In earlier years, Larson trained at Napa’s Kitchen Door as well as the Michelin recommended Angele Restaurant + Bar, garnering a coveted three-star review from the San Francisco Chronicle as well as a Top 100 of 2013 rating from nationally renowned food critic Michael Bauer. A native of San Francisco’s East Bay, since his move to San Diego Larson has been researching farmers markets and building relationships with local farms, saying “I think about ingredients before anything else.”
