It’s time to add a little bit of spice to your day and celebrate National Hot and Spicy Food Day on August 19! The following destinations are dishing up some of the spiciest selections around town, with plenty of options for spice lovers to enjoy.

Best known for their signature soup broth, Mongolian Hot Pot knows what it takes to achieve the ultimate spice level. The family-owned and operated eatery specializes in serving up authentic Chinese cuisine including their signature Ying Yang Hot Pot which features a half serving of original broth and a half serving of the spicy. Customize the ultimate creation with the addition of premium proteins, noodles, and veggies! Head over to sister eatery, Shabu Works for lunch or dinner and stylize your hot pot creation with spicy soup base options including the Spicy Miso and Spicy Curry – or enjoy at home with a signature Shabu-Shabu Home Kit.

At Corner Chicken, the process of spicing up your meal is entirely up to you! Located in the East Village neighborhood of San Diego, the local eatery is dishing up savory and sweat-inducing Fried Chicken Sandwiches. Pick from five levels of spice including the XXX level, which is for the most adventurous of diners! Coated in signature sauce and served with kale slaw, pickles, and a side of crinkle-cut fries, this sammy will be sure to leave you reaching for a sip of water or better yet, an ice-cold beer!

With six locations across San Diego, Tajima is a must-try when looking to satiate a hankering for ramen. With a robust menu, the Spicy Sesame Ramen is a fan-favorite with a flavorful combination of spicy tonkotsu pork broth mixed with special sesame paste, egg noodles, ground pork, ½ ramen egg, bean sprouts, fried garlic chips, mizuna leaf and topped with green onions and sesame seeds.

Bub’s at the Beach has been dishing up savory snacks and refreshing beverages for over 20 years in the heart of Pacific Beach. With a hearty menu and a laid-back vibe, Bub’s is serving up some spice with their signature Grilled Chicken Wings. Drench your wings in four of the hot and spicy sauces Bub’s has to offer, including the Carolina Habanero. All wings are served with a side of ranch or blue cheese.

For some spice on the go, head to one of the four existing Eggies locations and feast your eyes and stomachs on their summer special. The Spicy Chicken Eggie features fried chicken tossed in clucking good hot sauce and spicy mix, a fried egg, muenster cheese, cayenne spiced cole slaw, bacon jam, and house aioli served on a Brioche bun. This spicy special will only be available until September 21 so make sure to stop in and snag one for yourself!

Head to Grater Grilled Cheese for a decadent array of gourmet sandwich selections. With locations in Mission Valley and Otay Ranch, the eatery is dedicated to making the world a grater place, one grilled cheese at a time, and is doing just that with the beloved Nashville Hot Grilled Cheese. Featuring the ‘Basic 5’ cheese base (which includes five slices of Colby, Monterey Jack, Swiss, Sharp Cheddar, and Provolone cheese), this creation incorporates buffalo fried chicken, coleslaw, and pickles on sourdough bread. For bite-sized spice, add on an order of the Jalapeño Poppers to any meal.
