Mendocino Farms, the popular upscale fast-casual sandwich and salad destination with outposts in La Jolla, Del Mar and Carlsbad, is thrilled to announce the grand opening of their newest location in Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter on Thursday, February 13th. The Downtown opening marks the fourth Mendocino Farms location in San Diego (and their 32nd total), signaling the company’s further integration into San Diego’s dining landscape as they bring their seasonal, chef-driven menu of gourmet sandwiches and creative salads to a more densely populated urban area.
Established in Downtown Los Angeles in 2005 by husband-and-wife team Mario Del Pero and Ellen Chen, the thriving restaurant group has since opened restaurants in neighborhoods throughout Southern California, Northern California and Houston, Texas. Del Pero and Chen founded Mendocino Farms’ diverse menu on strong relationships with the best local farms and food artisans, providing guests with the tastiest food from the freshest ingredients.
“With chef-driven eateries springing up all over Little Italy and East Village, we’ve been watching the exciting culinary renaissance taking place in Downtown San Diegoand wanted to be part of it,” Del Pero said. Our very first locations in Downtown Los Angeles helped Mendocino Farms earn a reputation as one of the most popular dining and catering destinations among busy urban professionals, so we saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring our premium sandwiches & salads and our hospitality-driven take on fast casual service to foodies in the heart of Downtown San Diego.”
“As a UCSD alum, it means a lot to me to have the opportunity to continue building neighborhood gathering places here and helping San Diegans EAT HAPPY!” added Chen.
Such farm-to-table partnerships shine in dishes like the Save Drake Farm’s Salad, which is named after the small goat farm that the restaurant helped save from bankruptcy by featuring their incredible chevre cheese. The salad also features fresh field greens delivered daily from Scarborough Farms. Mendocino Farms’ dynamic menu changes regularly to highlight the best of the season’s harvest and is always served with white tablecloth hospitality.
The Downtown San Diego Mendocino Farms will feature its Winter Menu for Grand Opening and the new Spring Menu will debut on March 3rd. The fresh fare will be complemented by a
large selection of local craft beers and curated wines as well as scratch-made soups and gourmet deli salads. The restaurant also offers a convenient order-ahead option online, allowing busy professionals to bypass the line and simply grab their meal from a guest-facing online order pickup shelf in the dining room. For larger gatherings, Mendocino Farms provides flexible and affordable catering options for pickup and/or delivery, providing delicious and affordable options for business meetings, school functions, or upscale entertaining at home.
Throughout its expansion, Mendocino Farms has focused on creating playful yet polished neighborhood gathering places with thoughtfully designed details to serve the interests of the community. The Downtown San Diego location fills the lower level of the groundbreakingly modern Tower 180 building, which recently underwent a full renovation by Hammer Ventures. The nearly 2,700 sq ft restaurant boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows, pops of colorful tile and columns with live greenery, in addition to a 1,300 sq ft raised outdoor patio.
Mendocino Farms Downtown San Diego is located on the corner of Broadway and First in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. The new location offers lunch and dinner daily from 11 am to 9 pm. To learn more about Mendocino Farms, visit their website at www.mendocinofarms.com.
