When in Little Italy, do as the Italians do! Every year, the Little Italy Association celebrates the traditional summer Italian holiday “Feriae Augusti”. Celebrated on August 15, Ferragosto is a national Italian holiday with roots in Roman Catholic tradition with festivities intended to be a period of rest after months of hard work. While we may be celebrating a little differently this year, we could all use a little fun.
More than just a celebration, Ferragosto brings together the community to recognize the progressive and innovative work they have done. Good things happen when people collectively come together, and Little Italy’s success has a lot to do with just that.
Put on your favorite summer outfit and join Little Italy in keeping the celebration of Ferragosto alive with a feast that reflects the simplicity of summer cuisine full of fresh vegetables, seafood, meats, and cheeses:
- Begin with short rib carpaccio from Barbusa made with shallots and caciocavallo or a Pomadoro Salad loaded with fresh tomatoes, olives, cucumber, and onion from Civico 1845.
- Enjoy fresh oysters and ceviche from Ironside Fish & Oyster or indulge in the show-stopping Cheese Wheel Pasta from Bencotto tossed in Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
- Satisfy your sweet tooth with an Italian soda or an affogato made with artisan gelato from Solunto.
