The newly opened Himitsu in La Jolla is an elevated Japanese restaurant that specializes in fresh nigiri, sashimi, sushi and izakaya-style tapas inspired by Executive Chef Mitsu himself.
Bringing 17 years of experience from Sushi Ota with him, Chef Mitsu has honed his craft, and with a focus on delivering a premium service to match topnotch Japanese fare, he is dedicated to ensuring that every patron has a personalized experience tailored to their individual needs.
The menu features a unique focus on nigiri and sashimi style sushi, both preparations that emphasize the high-quality fish that the restaurant will serve, which is something that Chef Mitsu considers to be a vital component when it comes to preparing anything worthy of serving his patrons. His omakase menu will change nightly, showcasing both traditional sushi arts as well as creative small plate offerings.
A joint venture between the owners of The Taco Stand and restaurateur, Edo Kobayashi, the owner of several Japanese restaurants located in Mexico City, Himitsu is a manifestation of melding sushi expertise with experiential dining, making it a valuable addition to La Jolla’s growing culinary enclave.
The space itself seats a total of 30 guests, consisting of eight bar seats and 22 patio seats, making it a prime destination for those seeking a more intimate dining experience. Adorned in Asian-inspired décor merged with modern influence, the space exudes casual elegance, which pairs perfectly with the sushi bar’s inviting aesthetic, as it draws the eye to the artful movements of sushi preparation, while enabling guests to relax and converse.
Himitsu is located at: 1030 Torrey Pines Rd., La Jolla, CA 92037. They are open for dinner on Monday–Friday 5–10 p.m. and Saturdays from 5–10:30 p.m., and will offer a menu brimming with high-grade sushi and Japanese tapas.
