Common Theory Public House has announces that renowned Chef Jonathan Bautista has been named Head of Culinary Operations of the wildly popular Convoy District craft beer pub and eatery. In addition, Chef Bautista will also lead the food program at Realm of the 52 Remedies, the adjoining opulent nightspot serving craft cocktails and small plates inspired by the flavors, unique ingredients, and artistry of the Far East.
A seasoned San Diego culinary veteran, Chef Bautista most recently served at the helm of all three levels of George’s at the Cove, including its fine dining restaurant California Modern under the wing of Executive Chef/Partner Trey Foshee. Prior to George’s, he spent five years with Roy’s Restaurant group and three years at L’Auberge Del Mar, where he was chef de cuisine at Kitchen 1540.
Chef Bautista plans to integrate his impeccable skill and extensive experience in the world of fine dining and hospitality to further elevate Common Theory’s eclectic and culturally-inspired pub fare. New additions to the menu include items like the Szechuan Hot-Fried Chicken Sandwich with fermented pear slaw, sweet pickle, and kaffir lime ranch, the Convoy Pork & Shrimp Katsu Burger served on a brioche bun with pickled onions, butter lettuce, tonkatsu mustard spread, and radish sprouts, and the Beef Bulgogi Sandwich made with Korean-style marinated beef, pickled daikon, carrot, and cucumber.
“I’m beyond happy to be part of this amazing team,” said Jonathan Bautista. “My goal is to continue elevating the guest experience and positive reputation Common Theory has already earned while integrating some of my own experiences, ideas, and favorite ingredients into the mix. I’m very excited about this new opportunity and all of the challenges it will bring.”
About Common Theory Public House
Inspired by a diverse group of close friends with a common bond: delicious food, quality craft beers, and making memories. From this, Common Theory Public House was born in 2014. The objective from the beginning: to build a warm, friendly space where everyone is welcome, and a place where there’s always something amazing available to eat and drink to suit anyone.
The eatery offers a rotating selection of over 30 craft beers on tap at one time, deriving from the most popular breweries in San Diego County, throughout California, and the US. The kitchen, helmed by renowned California Chef Jonathan Bautista, focuses on enhancing and elevating simple, natural ingredients found in San Diego and throughout California using contemporary cooking sensibilities of different ethnic backgrounds. The symbiotic culture clash of the owners’ Korean-Chinese-Mexican-American background genuinely showcases itself in Common Theory’s ambiance, food, and drinks; demonstrating one common story of many of what it means to be Californian.
Common Theory is located at 4805 Convoy Street and is open Sun-Wed 11:00am – 12:00pm and Thurs-Sat 11:00am – 2:00am. To stay updated with featured specials, exclusive events, and more visit commontheorysd.com, and be sure to follow on Instagram and Facebook.
