Proprietor and Chef Christian Gomez of WetStone Wine Bar will herald the arrival of his new globally-inspired concept, Fools and Kings, to the bustling Mission Hills corridor on Goldfinch Street with a grand opening party on Friday July 7th. The menu will focus on seasonal small/shared plates influenced by the chef’s culinary travels throughout Western Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East.
The grand opening celebration on July 7 will take place from 5pm to 11pm and will be open to the public. There will be a sampling until 10pm of some of the featured dishes to be available on the summer 2017 menu such as, filet mignon skewers ala San Telmo with housemade chimichurri, cebiche Pan Americano, ahi tuna carpaccio ala Calle San Martín, sumac braised lamb shoulder with garbanzo beans and pomegranate syrup along with a unique collection of well thought out drink options of wines, beer and house-made sangrias.
“I want to make people feel transported to another city somewhere far away when they enter, to lend a feeling of traveling out of their everyday lives for a couple hours in the company of friends and loved ones,” says Christian Gomez, proprietor and chef of Fools and Kings. “I have fallen entranced with a number of amazing international destinations over the years and the feeling that I get when I discover a place that captures my heart is something to behold. My goal is to help recreate that same feeling for others through the ambiance of the restaurant and the food I serve.”
The seductive and intimate, yet modern interior, of Fools and Kings is adorned with intricate metal doors, wrought iron, a live edge bar and tables, as well as exotic tropical greenery that reaches toward the distinctive old world lamps and chandeliers from the 20-foot ceilings. There are also three images that were carefully chosen to exude moments in time that were translated in mural form by local artist, and Christian’s good friend, Josh Hunter that prominently portray a different story by capturing a moment of life in opposite corners of the world.
Fools and Kings is located at 4015 Goldfinch Street, San Diego, CA 92103. It will be open for dinner Tuesday through Thursday from 5pm to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 11pm and Sundays from 4pm to 10pm. Plans for adding brunch and a late-night happy hour to be announced later this summer.
