Flower Hill Promenade will offer a new specialty event series called inBloom that celebrates the blossoming of a new season. From Saturday, May 6 through Sunday, May 28, vibrant floral displays will abound and curated nature-inspired entertainment, events and workshops will be led by local artisans and Flower Hill merchants.
Additionally, inBloom’s Playhouse Palooza initiative will introduce to the promenade five life-size discovery playhouses for kids created by local construction companies and architects which will be auctioned for charity this summer.
InBloom was created by San Diego real estate developer and Managing Partner of Flower Hill Promenade, Jeffrey Essakow in conjunction with Siena Randall and Leslie Randall of R&R Enterprises. The event is inspired by the the desire to develop community and create memorable experiences while bringing awareness to its mix of local independent and national merchants.
“Flower Hill Promenade isn’t just a shopping center, it’s a lifestyle destination designed to cater to the everyday needs of our customers,” said Essakow. “Small business is vital for a healthy economy; I want our local retailers to thrive. Our vision for inBloom is to provide new and memorable ways to eat, play, shop, learn and connect with one another, while supporting some of our city’s most remarkable businesses and entrepreneurs.
Keeping true to its name, Flower Hill Promenade will be trimmed with interesting varieties of flora during May. Nestled throughout the center levels you will find enchanting floral vignettes set in curated vintage finds. Over the past two years, the center has enlisted top landscape artists and garden experts who will be helping to adorn the center with unique floral displays including director of operations at San Diego Botanic Garden, Pat Hammer; the Los Angeles-based creative director of Paradiso Parade Floats, Charles Meier; and designers from local company, BrightView Landscape.
“We are thrilled to partner with our title sponsor, BrightView Landscape, who has done an incredible job transforming our center,” said Essakow.
To bring inBloom to life, Flower Hill has partnered with the center’s merchants and local experts to create several weeks of unique and captivating programming. The inBloom website (experienceinbloom.com) features a calendar which lists more than 100 dynamic experiences including:
Floral design (arrangements with BloomBabes and Infinite Succulents; garden workshops with TV Personality Shirley Bovshow, etc.)
Kids activities (inBloom Playhouse Palooza; live interactive butterfly exhibit, cooking classes with The Spice Way, floral hair-dos by Pigtails & Crewcuts, arts and crafts at Geppetto’s Toys, etc.)
Family events (Mother’s Day tea party and mommy & me yoga classes with If I Was a Bird; movies under the stars, herb gardening with Urban Plantations, etc.)
Culinary and cocktails (plant-infused mixology; fresh flowers and cheese at Venissimo; edible gardening with Urban Plantations; herb-infused tea brewing with The Spice Way)
Fashion fêtes and design (Wildflower and Enchanted Forest Fashion Shows created by Irina Rachow of Dark Horse Designs showcasing the many specialty Flower Hill boutiques, plus succulent jewelry and flower crown making with Debra Prinzing)
At the heart of Essakow’s inBloom is a passion to get people within the community to connect with and support one another. In addition to these activities, inBloom’s Playhouse Palooza will offer children new discoveries by exploring five distinctly unique playhouses across the premises before they are auctioned for charity in early July. The structures were built and designed collaboratively by several San Diego construction-architect teams who have selected a charity to whom they will donate proceeds from the sale. LEGOLand also played a significant role in the initiative, creating a branded castle that will pique children’s wildest imaginations.
“Tranformation” by McCarthy Building Companies and Safdie Rabines Architects: Resembling a cocoon, the playhouse is inspired by the butterfly’s transformation, symbolic of childhood development. Kids can access a cozy reading nook on the second floor. Proceeds will go to Warrior to Soulmate (W2SM) to empower veterans. (Located on the Starbucks patio.)
“LEGOLAND Castle Hotel” by PCL Construction and Merlin Magic Making: In partnership with LEGOLAND and Merlin Entertainments, this Renaissance-era castle features a drawbridge and 3-D torches. Proceeds will go to international children’s foundation, Merlin’s Magic Wand. (Located at Geppetto’s Toys corner.)
Landform (Swinerton Builders/Hanna Gabriel Wells Architects): An abstract representation of San Diego’s coastal bluffs on the outside, the interior features interactive play areas. Proceeds will go to Rady Childrens Hospital. (Located across from Sweetpea Children’s Shop)
Dragon’s Play (Turner Construction Company/ Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects, Inc): Mimicking a Dragon’s Blood Tree from the island of Socotra, this playhouse brings awareness to a foreign, vulnerable species to instill appreciation for the environment and its plant-life. Proceeds will go to Girl Scouts of America. (Located on Flower Child’s east patio.)
Seaside Tower (Lusardi Construction/Davy Architecture): Reminiscent of Del Mar’s coastal community – “where the turf meets the surf” – and San Diego’s scenic beaches, this playhouse is designed after a seaside bungalow. Proceeds will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation. (Located in the Opus Bank courtyard.)
