Barrel Republic Spicy Four Chile Mac & Cheese

Things are about to get spicy as November is National Pepper Month! (Fun fact: pepper are actually fruits, not veggies, because they contain seeds) There are hundreds of different ways to enjoy peppers, which come in a variety of vibrant colors and flavors, and we’ve rounded up some of the tastiest for you to checkout this month.

Stop into any of Barrel Republic’s three locations – PB, Oceanside and Carlsbad – to taste the Four Chile Mac & Cheese. Indulge in cheesy noodles topped with a spicy combination of poblano, sweet red bell and jalapeño pepper salad, white cheddar, mozzarella, poblano oil and ghost chile salt. In Oceanside, wash it down with Big Sky Brewing Company’s Moose Drool Nitro, a brown ale-American beer that would pair perfectly.

City Tacos has turned up the heat on innovative, delicious and unique tacos at their three locations in North Park, La Mesa and Imperial Beach. And with more locations set to open soon, even more San Diegans can experience the lively flavors on the menu, such as in the Chile Relleno taco. If you love some spice, you’re sure to love this beer battered chile guero, which comes filled with Oaxaca and cotija cheese, dice tomato, onions and cilantro.

Make your way up to Oceanside and venture into Jalisco Cantina, a quaint spot serving a selection of the city’s finest tequila, along with scratch made Mexican fare. During National Pepper Month, get things started with the Spicy Shrimp Guacamole, a tasty blend of avocado, jalapeño purée, lime, poblano, cilantro and cotija, with a tostada for dipping. While you’re at it, try the Mole Negroni made with mezcal, Campari, carpano antica, chili liqueur, cacao and mole bitters.

El Jardin Cantina invites you to savor sizzling platefuls of goodness, made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients, on their eclectically decorated and expansive patio. Opt to order the grilled Gobernadortaco, consisting of shrimp, Oaxaca cheese, onion and oh-so-spicy habanero crema, which comes on the side. Try it if you dare!

At Woodstock’s Pizza, enjoy classic combos or choose to build your own customize pie, where you can add toppings to your heart’s content. For National Pepper Month, we recommend loading up on banana peppers, a delightful bell pepper medley and jalapeños, all of which would go great with any sauce, meat and cheese offered at Woodstock’s.
