By popular demand and in honor of its first successful year in business, Empanada Kitchen has made the decision to extend hours to open on Sundays. Before now, Empanada Kitchen aficionados could only get these popular golden-brown baked handmade Argentine empanadas at the downtown location Monday to Saturday or on Sundays only at the La Jolla Open Aire Market.
Now, beginning March 31, the Downtown San Diego location will be stocked with all of its classic favorite flavors as well as new additions that are crafted especially to satisfy cravings during optimal brunch hours every Sunday between 10:00am to 3:00pm. Seasonal specials now available include Italian sausage and pesto; spicy shrimp and garlic; spinach; and broccoli and bacon. Additional flavors coming soon: caramelized onion and mushroom with vegan mozzarella, and a ricotta tart with fresh blueberry and lemon.
To celebrate the one-year anniversary and the recent recognition of being listed on Yelp’s “Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. 2019”, everyone who comes on Friday, March 29 will receive a free homemade “alfajor” with the purchase of an empanada meal deal. An alfajor is a traditional cookie-like confection filled in the middle with “dulce de leche” (similar to caramel) and is popular in Argentina and other countries throughout South America.
“We are truly grateful for all of the amazing support from the local community and so excited for the demand that has led us to extend our hours seven days a week,” said Matias Rigali, partner of Empanada Kitchen. “With Sunday empanada brunch hours combined with already more catering capabilities, our next goal is to start looking for new locations around San Diego County to reach more people.”
