One Door North

New North Park Eatery & Bar Interior Inspired by the Great Outdoors

One Door North, the causal North Park restaurant and bar by husband and wife duo Executive Chef Fred & Tammy Piehl of Piehl Restaurant Group, releases exciting new developments in the design and inspiration of their highly anticipated neighborhood eatery.

Perched near the corner of 30th Street & Upas, One Door North’s unique design esthetic comes together through the collaboration of various San Diego-based consultants including hospitality architecture and design group obr, marketing specialist Dana Williams, and boutique design studio Murfey Design. Upon completion in March/April 2016, the 5,000 sq. ft. restaurant will offer a more laid-back vibe in relation to the Piehl’s neighboring sister restaurant, The Smoking Goat. The inspiration behind the design playfully pays tribute to the great outdoors while complementing Chef Fred’s enthusiasm for culinary discovery and exploration.

Upon entry, a 25-ft ramp lit by vintage lanterns hanging overhead leads guests to three distinct dining areas that are tied together through rustic elements of wood, steel, and brick. A color palette of deep forest greens, warm creams and soft brown leathers accent the entire space lending itself to an inviting and intimate dining experience.

A street facing dining area in the front of the building offers guests an open and airy setting with communal picnic-style tables and floor to ceiling windows retracting upward to create a sense of connection between those dining and the energy of 30th street. Moving toward the middle of the space, an iron and brick laden bar encourages a social environment with casual high-top seating, soft lighting, and multiple flat screen TVs. The live-edge solid wood bar-top acts as a natural centerpiece in this area, where patrons can gather for a drink and strike up conversations with neighbors.

The back dining area is flanked with three 11-ft tall safari-style canvas tents that serve as dramatic semi-private dining spaces for groups of six to eight, or can be connected to create one large linear dining room for larger parties. Each tent features handpicked chandeliers and a unique theme, drawing inspiration from the mountains of California to the greenery of the Northwest. Floor to ceiling graphics of forest imagery on the back wall showcases elements from nature in the space, fully emerging guests into an ambiance of adventure and the great outdoors.

One Door North is located at 3422 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92104. To stay informed about the latest news and announcements, guests can visit OneDoorNorthSD.com, or find One Door North on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

About Piehl Restaurant Group:

Family owned and operated, restaurant duo Fred and Tammy Piehl have ignited a passion for quality French fare on the corner of 30th and Upas Streets, in the heart of San Diego’s North Park neighborhood. Inspired by his farm-to-table up-bringing and culinary training at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, Executive Chef and Co-owner Fred Piehl marries French cuisine with the bounty of San Diego at the couple’s original concept which opened in 2010, The Smoking Goat. Serving a menu that is both imaginative yet unpretentious, diners are treated to seasonal dishes that have a local, sustainable and organic emphasis. The restaurant has received recognition from OpenTable for being one of the ‘Top 100 Fit for Foodie Restaurants’ in 2013, a San Diego Magazine’s ‘Critic’s Pick for Best Fries’ in 2014, and most recently was named ‘Best Neighborhood Restaurant’ in San Diego Magazine’s annual “Best of” issue. In response to The Smoking Goat’s overwhelming success, the Piehl Restaurant Group is expanding, venturing into the space next door to launch an entirely new concept, One Door North, serving farm fresh small plates and seasonal fare in an approachable setting with a design nod to discovery and adventure. With Tammy Piehl managing the operations and Chef Fred creating and executing in the kitchen, the Piehl Restaurant Group is truly a family business, growing their collective into a beloved neighborhood staple that pays homage to French flavors and sustainable offerings.
