Chef-Driven BBQ Events

Upscale barbeque with an international flair is fueling a flame in Westfield UTC. This month, Smokeyard BBQ & Chop Shop kicks off a monthly Butcher & Brewmaster dinner series with former Top Chef contestant Giselle Wellman (San Diego Jewish Academy, Pacific Standard, Petrossian). She and Smokeyard’s Exec Chef Matt Sramek will join forces with one of San Diego’s most sought-after breweries, Societe Brewing Co. for a five-course tasting dinner. This chef/brewer led evening will be filled with inventive slow smoked creations, seafood selections and paired brews, including Societe’s 2018 World Beer Cup gold-medal winner, The Thief.

Break out the wet wipes because two tried-and-true San Diego-based institutions, Phil’s BBQ and Sammy Woodfired Pizza, are teaming up to curate three new collaboration items during the month of May, with a portion of proceeds to directly benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. Available at all 7 Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza locations around San Diego County from Monday, May 14th through Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17th, the two powerhouse restaurateurs have created some saucy specialties, including a BBQ Chicken Salad with fresh corn, tomatoes, red onion, gorgonzola and crispy tortilla strips; BBQ Pizza featuring Phil’s boneless pork ribs, pineapple, chili oil, garlic, red bell peppers and mozzarella; and an angel-hair pasta dish tossed in a garlicky cream sauce and topped with a beef rib and sauce.
