December 5th, Prohibition or Repeal Day, honors the rich traditions of imbibing and the legitimacy of our beloved bartenders. There is no better way to celebrate than at San Diego’s oldest taverns or with era-themed parties and classic drinks that give a nod to the last 83 years of drinking legally. So gather some friends and observe our constitutional rights at these local San Diego watering holes!
Creatures of the night will be reaching for a sip of Sleepy Hollow, Bleu Bohème’s spooky cocktail. Made with mezcal, Allspice Dram liqueur and an absinth rinse, the cocktail is garnished with toasted rosemary that smokes like eerie fog.
BANKERS HILL BAR + Restaurant will celebrate Halloween with an extended “Hallow-Hour” happy hour special and a creepy new cocktail, the Boomstick, on Monday, Oct. 31.
The Boomstick, developed by bar manager Zack Gray, is made with Malahat spiced rum, amaretto, pumpkin, pomegranate and lime, and garnished with sage smoke. Inspired by the horror series, “The Evil Dead,” the drink is reminiscent of the sawed-off shotgun used by main character, Ash, while the tall glass and smoking sage represents a smoking gun. The Boomstick is priced at $12.

‘Beer is the Path to the Dark Side’ IPA Cocktail to Debut during Comic-Con
Fear may have led Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, but beer will do the trick at BANKERS HILL BAR + Restaurant with ‘Beer is the Path to the Dark Side,’ an IPA-based cocktail created by Zack Gray. The force will deliver the flavorful drink on Wednesday, July 20, in honor of the annual convention.
Gray, BANKERS HILL’s new lead bartender, makes the Yoda-inspired drink with Genepy des Alpes liqueur, fresh lime juice, house-made pineapple gum syrup, house-made cucumber basil syrup and is topped with Societe Brewing Co.’s Apprentice IPA. Inspired by the Jedi Master’s memorable line, the cocktail will be priced at $12.

The four-course dinner will be priced at $80 per person and begins with an avocado and citrus salad with goat cheese, candied pistachios, grapefruit and lemon vinaigrette; paired with a 2014 Vermentino. For the second course, guests will enjoy strawberry bruschetta with Meyer lemon-fennel marmalade, whipped Boucheron and spiced almonds, served with a 2013 Patelin de Tablas.

BANKERS HILL BAR + Restaurant, located at 2202 4th Ave., is giving guests ample time to indulge in its signature cocktail menu and other libations on National Happy Hour Day with food and beverage specials at the bar from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. exclusively on Thursday, Nov. 12.
BANKERS HILL’s impressive selection of hand-crafted cocktails created by lead bartender, Kris Rizzato will be available for $2 off per drink, and include the Balboa Constrictor, made with white rum, maraschino liqueur, ancho chili liqueur, lemon juice, grapefruit olio and mint; the Fig Poppa, made with made with fig-infused Slow Hand Six Woods whiskey, armada oloroso sherry, lime juice, cane syrup and black walnut bitters; Pisco Punch, made with house-made pineapple gum syrup, fresh lime juice and Byrrh and served in a coupe with a lemon twist; and more. Additional happy hour drink selections include house white or red wine priced at $5.50 per glass; daily draft beer selections priced at $5.50 per glass; and a daily cocktail selection priced at $8. All beer and wines are available for $1 off per glass.
TREAT MOM TO THE MOTHER OF ALL MEALS AT BANKERS HILL BAR + RESTAURANT
BANKERS HILL BAR + Restaurant, located at 2202 4th Ave., will offer moms specialty ‘momosas’ during the recently-introduced brunch and an array of seasonal menu items for dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day exclusively on Sunday, May 10.
Mothers may take advantage of specialty ‘momosas,’ a spin on the classic champagne and orange juice cocktail, during BANKERS’ new brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prepared by Executive Chef Carl Schroeder and Chef de Cuisine Ted Smith, the brunch menu features an array of savory breakfast favorites, soups and salads, small plates and select lunch items.
Christian Siglin, Eater San Diego’s 2014 “Bartender of the Year,” also offers additional morning drinks such as a BANKERS’ Bloody Mary, a Grapefruit Collins, and the Oh Sherry, made with hibiscus-infused Fino sherry, lemon, cane syrup, black walnut bitters, and garnished with a purple orchid; among others.
BANKERS will serve Mother’s Day dinner from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. featuring a menu of American favorites with a gourmet twist. Seasonal menu items include a chile verde soup with braised pork belly, cilantro, garlic croutons and smoke paprika oil; a pear, arugula and pomegranate salad served with spiced goat cheese and a port reduction; pan-seared golden sand bass with sunchoke puree; broccolini with braised artichokes in a Provencal-inspired barigoule sauce; and chipotle-glazed meatloaf with roasted root vegetables and smashed potatoes; among others.
