With the last minute touches soon to be completed, Oceanside’s newest waterfront restaurant, the Oceanside Broiler, is set to begin serving savory steaks, sumptuous fresh seafood, sushi, tasty salads, cool libations and much more on Thursday, May 15. The restaurant will open to the public for cocktails and dinner that evening at the colorful waterside location at 1325 Harbor Drive North, formerly occupied by Monterey Bay Canners.
Brothers Doug and David Salisbury, who started the Monterey Bay Canners restaurant chain in 1983, own the new venture. The pair has invested more than $1,000,000 in the purchase and remodel of the 7,500-square-foot facility that will accommodate 275 guests inside and on a patio and a covered lanai expected this summer.
The airy restaurant has an upscale yet causal sophistication, with warm wooded tabletops accented by burgundy and gray tones. Richly upholstered booths make up two-thirds of the dining space, including three oversized booths that can accommodate up to 14 guests each. All new tile flooring surrounds the open, exposition-style kitchen. A centerpiece of the restaurant is a lighted 700-gallon saltwater fish tank.
The Oceanside Broiler will be open daily, with lunch served Monday through Saturday from 11:30AM until 4PM, and brunch from 10AM until 2PM on Sundays. Dinner will be served nightly with hours from 4PM until 9:30PM. The lounge and lanai will be open from 11AM until 11PM on most days and live entertainment is tentatively scheduled on the lanai on Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the summer. The expanded wine list includes a broad selection of California wines by the bottle or glass. Guests can also order champagne or sake.
“We will be serving house-made pastries, fresh and sustainable seafood, local craft beers on tap, and organic and locally grown products,” said David. “We will offer the longest happy hour in town, running from 11AM until 6PM every day, plus outside dining and banquet facilities with lots of knowledgeable staff ready to serve our guests.”
The restaurant’s executive chef is Thomas L. Ferguson, whose experience encompasses more than 10 years with the popular Lazy Dog Café restaurant chain. Award-winning restaurateur Matt Oquita is the general manager. The restaurant’s owners plan to support local efforts to keep the beach clean, including work done by the Surfrider Foundation.
