Civico 1845 the Little Italy eatery known for its authentic Italian dishes and vegan offerings, has formed a collaboration with two Michelin-rated Italian chefs, father and son Antonio and Luca Abbruzzino, to highlight dishes that feature ingredients from southern Italy.

To kick off the partnership, the chefs will travel to San Diego and work with Civico 1845 chefs Alfonso Pisacane and Pietro Gallo to create new dishes that highlight southern Italy’s finest tastes. Ingredients to be imported from Italy include the Calabrian chile pepper, red Tropea onions, San Marzano tomatoes, Campania’s buffalo mozzarella and more. As with the rest of the Civico 1845 menu, these dishes will also incorporate ingredients grown locally in San Diego.

An unveiling event featuring some of the new dishes will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, with two seatings at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. A multi-course menu will be served (in lieu of full menus) that includes an appetizer, two pasta dishes, two entrées and two desserts. Reservations must be made by calling the restaurant at 619-431-5990.

The Abbruzzinos received their first Michelin star in 2014, and have since received it every year after, for Antonio Abbruzzino –a modern Italian restaurant in Catanzaro, the capital city of the Calabria. Luca Abbruzzino was also named “Best Young Chef” for the 2016 L’Espresso Guide. The Abbruzzinos also opened a new restaurant in Milan Ristorante Abbruzzino – last month.

Civico 1845 owners (and brothers) Dario and Pietro Gallo, also from Calabria, have been close with the Abbruzzino family for years. The collaboration has been a long time coming,” explained Dario Gallo, who serves as general manager for the restaurant. “The Abbruzzinos share our passion for the authentic cuisine of our home, and we are excited to give San Diegans the rare opportunity to enjoy dishes designed by Michelin-rated chefs, while still providing an affordable experience.”

The new dishes will be served as seasonal specials and added to the Civico 1845 menus (regular and vegan) throughout 2017 and beyond. For more information, visit www.civico1845.com.
