The Westgate Hotel and Modern Times Beer are partnering to present BEERology on Friday, October 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Riviera Terrace Fountain under the stars. Guests can expect to taste five hand-selected Modern Times brews, including two special releases, accompanied by perfectly paired appetizers created by the Westgate’s Executive Chef Fabrice Hardel.
The beer tastings will be led by Modern Times’ very own Phil MacNitt, known fondly in the industry as “The Beer Jesus,” and will include two special release beers (Lost Horizon Double IPA and the Fruitlands Sour Cherry Gose), two year-round beers (Lomaland Saison and Black House) and a seasonal beer (Aurora Red Rye IPA). Phil will discuss the San Diego craft beer scene, its history and tap into Modern Times’ aroma-driven beers that are often hybrid-style beers.
Duke’s honors Duke Kahanamoku, a native Hawaiian, the father of modern day surfing, and six-time Olympic swimming and water polo medalist. Guests will get a glimpse into the remarkable life of the restaurant’s namesake as well as tap into the La Jolla beach lifestyle.
The Duke’s La Jolla menus will celebrate the melting pot of cultures and cooking techniques of Hawaii and California. Komen San Diego’s third annual Dine Out for the Cure presented by Hologic, Inc. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. This fundraiser will allow San Diegans to enjoy a delicious meal all while supporting the fight against breast cancer.
“By enjoying a meal these San Diego restaurants, you will be making a difference in the lives of local women and their families affected by breast cancer,” said Laura Farmer Sherman, president & CEO, Susan G. On Thursday September 3rd, the hottest craft beer joint in the Gaslamp, Quad Alehouse will host an indulgent event, with beer and bacon being the stars of the night. Hillcrest will soon be toasting to a unique dining and drinking destination opening its doors in late-September. The Brew Project will give neighbors and visitors a rare opportunity to explore San Diego’s finest local beers, all under one roof.
The Brew Project is the brainchild of craft beer consultant and co-owner Beau Schmitt. Beau has consulted for, and designed five bars, and was named one of “5 San Diego Brew Experts” by Thrillist in 2014. He has personal connections with over 100 of San Diego’s 112 breweries and brought the concept of celebrating and serving ONLY local brews to 57 degrees in 2012. After its success, Schmitt set off to find a new location. Together with business partner Mike Sill (the former general manager of Quality Social), they found the former R Gang Eatery on 5th Avenue to be an idyllic location. “We are very excited to embrace the Hillcrest community and welcome everyone who enters to enjoy our 1902 residence turned gastronomy,” says Schmitt.
